Should I Use A Space Heater or My Gas Furnace

Customers often ask us about space heaters and whether they’re a good alternativespace heater to using their furnace while keeping their homes warm and save money. It would seem like the space heaters would use less energy when compared to a your home’s gas furnace, but that is not always the case. There are many things that should be taken into consideration such as:

  • Cost of gas and electricity in your area
  • Size of space being heated
  • Age of the space heater

According to the Energy Department, a gas furnace costs 43% the cost of running electric heaters in a home. Also remember that gas is at an all-time low. If you are looking to heat up only a couple rooms in a large home, then a space heater would help only as supplemental heat for that small space. An example would be a family member that likes their room much warmer than everyone else. The uses for space heaters are limited. Your homes heating system is much more efficient at maintaining a warm home. If you’re having to use a space heater because of uneven heating you might want to have us take a look at your existing equipment.
